Since 2015 the best team against the spread has covered 57.3% of the time (Cincinnati Bengals) and the worst 40.4% (Cleveland Browns). That gap is about the size pure chance would produce, and a team's cover rate one season has said almost nothing about the next.

Closing lines from nflverse, 2015 through the 2026 season to date, regular season and playoffs. W–L–P: covers, misses, pushes. Over % counts overs against the closing total. Power rank is the Spread Dial's Elo rating.
How to read these records
Every game since 2015 with a posted closing line counts once for each team. A team covers when its final margin beats the line it was given, misses when it falls short, and pushes when it lands exactly on it. Cover % leaves pushes out. The over/under record works the same way against the closing total.
How much of this is chance
- Each team has about 187 decided games against the spread since 2015. If every one were a fair coin flip, the 32 teams' cover rates would spread out with a standard deviation of about 3.7 percentage points. The real spread is 3.8 points. In other words, the difference between the best and worst teams here is roughly what luck alone would produce.
- Across 320 pairs of back-to-back full seasons, the correlation between a team's cover rate one year and the next is -0.02, which is effectively zero.
- The Spread Dial's fit gives a team's recent cover trend a slightly negative weight: teams on a hot run against the line have done a little worse than the line in their next game.
The market sets lines to split the action, and it adjusts to what it learns about a team quickly. A record against those lines is a fair summary of what happened, which is why it is shown, but it is not evidence that a team will keep beating them.
Splits on each team page
- Home and away. Neutral-site games count for the team listed as home.
- Favorite and underdog. Pick 'em games are in neither.
- Off a bye. 13 or more days since the team's last game.
- Playoffs. Postseason games only.
What it leaves out
- Other books' lines and line movement. Only nflverse's closing line is used, so a game that closed on a key number may be graded differently elsewhere.
- Seasons before 2015, to match the window both dials are fitted on.
- Franchise moves. The Rams include St. Louis (2015), the Chargers San Diego (2015–16) and the Raiders Oakland (2015–19).

Frequently asked questions
What does ATS mean?
Against the spread. A team covers when its final margin beats the point spread: a 3-point favorite that wins by 7 covers, one that wins by 2 does not, and a 3-point underdog that loses by 2 covers. A game where the margin lands exactly on the line is a push and counts for neither side.
Does a good ATS record mean a team will keep covering?
The data says no. Across the 32 teams since 2015, cover rates vary about as much as they would if every game were a coin flip, and a team's cover rate one season has had essentially no relationship with its rate the next. The Spread Dial's fit even gives recent cover trend a slightly negative weight. The records describe what happened; they are not a forecast.
Which line is used?
The closing line in nflverse's schedule file for every game. Lines at other books or earlier in the week can differ by a point or more, so another site's ATS table can disagree with this one on games that landed near the number.
Why start in 2015?
It matches the window both dials are fitted on, so a team's record here and the numbers behind its lean on the dials describe the same games. Relocated franchises are counted as one team: the Rams include St. Louis in 2015, the Chargers San Diego through 2016, the Raiders Oakland through 2019.
